What you get

Choosing Retail gives you the scan-first register with EBT SNAP. The grocery tools — scale labels, bottle deposits, cases and singles and shrink targets — work on any plan; stock, reorder and shrink reports need POS + ERP.

Step-by-step setup

  1. Administration → Your business → Retail; Administration → Sales tax with a Groceries tax group where your state exempts food.
  2. Catalog → Departments: Produce, Deli, Meat, Dairy, Frozen, Grocery, Beverages, Household. Tick EBT / SNAP eligible on food departments and set a Shrink target (e.g. 3% produce, 1% grocery).
  3. Catalog → Items → Import your item file. For each scale item, type the scale's PLU.
  4. Point of sale → Grocery → Read scale labels at the register: what the label carries (the price, on most scales, or the weight) and the barcode layout; Check a real label to be sure.
  5. Bottle-bill state? Set Bottle deposit on each item (a 6-pack of cans at 5¢ = 0.30).
  6. Items bought by the case and sold as singles: on the case item, A case that opens into the single and Units in a case.
  7. Pricing → Price books: load your distributor's weekly cost file.
  8. Pair registers, add card readers, and ring a test sale with a scale label and a deposit item.
