What you get

Choosing Retail switches on the convenience-store tools: scan-first register, lottery, EBT SNAP and cash back. On POS + ERP you also get inventory, DSD receiving, smart reorder and scan-data rebates.

POS for one store that only needs the register, or POS + ERP if you want stock, purchasing, rebates and books. Add Fuel & pumps if you sell fuel — then follow the gas station playbook too.

Step-by-step setup

  1. Administration → Your business → What do you sell? Retail. ERP profile: Small business.
  2. Administration → Stores: hours, time zone and a receipt footer ("Returns within 30 days with receipt").
  3. Administration → Sales tax: state, county and city rates; tax groups such as General, Groceries, Prepared food; tick the rates per store.
  4. Catalog → Departments: Grocery, Beverages, Beer, Wine, Tobacco, Vape, Candy, Snacks, Hot food, Lottery, General merchandise. On each set:
  • Tax group (Groceries for SNAP-type food where your state exempts it).
  • Minimum age 21 on Beer, Wine, Tobacco and Vape.
  • EBT / SNAP eligible on Grocery, Beverages (non-alcoholic), Snacks and Candy.
  1. Catalog → Items → Import your item file. On tobacco items turn Allow promotions off where the law limits discounts.
  2. Add case barcodes on items you sell by the carton (for example 10 packs for $89.90) so a scanned carton rings the pack price.
  3. Catalog → Quick keys: a "Hot food" page (hot dog, taquito, pizza slice) and department keys such as "Grocery $" for open amounts.
  4. Administration → Restricted sales: beer and wine hours per day, for example Sunday from 10:00 am.
  5. Point of sale → Lottery → Set up lottery keys, add your games, receive and activate packs. See Lottery.
  6. Payments → Cash discount if you run dual pricing (card price up to 4% higher, shown as "Non-cash adjustment").
  7. Staff & roles: cashiers with PINs; a Shift lead role for opening and closing.
  8. Pair registers, run Printer setup, add card readers, then ring a $1 card sale and refund it.
